Iran-Italy joint play ‘The Violin of Titanic’ to go on stage

Iranian, Afghani and Italian artists are to stage ‘The Violin of Titanic’, a joint production on the beginning of the New Year.

Iranian, Afghan and Italian artists are to stage joint-production ‘The Violin of Titanic’ in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on the beginning of the New Year.

‘The Violin of Titanic’ will go on stage at the Decor Workshop of the Roudaki Culture and Art Foundation in Tehran from January 1, 2017.

The play is a co-production of the Italian theater company Cantieri Meticci, directed by Pietro Floridia, and the Iranian Mowj Theater Troupe, directed by Arash Abbasi.

“Floridia had recently organized a 10-day theater workshop in Tehran and the play is its outcome, which will be performed by actors from Iran and Afghanistan, as it deals with the issue of refugees and migration,” Abbasi said.

‘The Violin of Titanic’ has gone on stage in a number of countries, including Germany, France, Brazil and Italy. It was developed each time according to the language and culture of the hosting country.

The play addresses the economic crisis and decline of social values in modern lifestyles. Its name is taken from the story of the British passenger liner ‘Titanic’ that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912 after an iceberg crash.

As an interactive show, ‘The Violin of Titanic’ brings viewers aboard as refugees to let them experience the settings and quests for survival by migrants all over the world.

Abbasi also directed ‘Fathers, Mothers and Kids’, which is another joint theater production with Italy and was staged in Tehran as well as a few Italian cities.
